What are Donation Types?

Donation Types are specific to DonorElf and are calculated based upon the giving history of the contact donor.

For example, the donation type for a contact's first gift is First, and the donation type for a contact that gives every month is Monthly.

Donation Types are not to be confused with Transaction Types. Transaction Types come from the organization's accounting system and are entered by the bookkeeper when the donation is entered.

There are 5 possible donation types, and here are how they are calculated:

• Pledge - The donation is part of an active pledge for the contact.
• Monthly - The contact has consistently been donating on a monthly basis
• Annual - The contact has consistently been donating on an annual basis
• First - This is the first donation the contact has made
• Non-Recurring - The contact has donated more than once, but they aren't donating on a monthly basis

If there is an active pledge for the contact, the donation type will always be Pledge, even if it's the first time they give or they give every month.
